DIY Mesh Produce Bag Scrubbie

We have a lot of knitted wash cloths around the house, but sometimes you need a bit more friction. That is where these scrubbies come in handy. While there are a lot of more complicated and attractive patterns out there for scrubbies, we would rather not spend too much time on these things so we don’t feel bad when it is time to get them dirty or to throw them away.

Materials

Cotton yarn 3 onion bags 5mm crochet needle

Instructions

  1. Cut the onion bags open to make a long sheet. Using scissors, cut a long strip by zig-zagging through the material. You don’t have to be perfect here, the messier it is, the more scrubbing power you have.

  1. Grab both the strip of mesh and the yarn and chain a row about 5-6″ long. Turn

  2. In the second chain from the hook, single crochet, and continue until the end of the chain, chain one and turn.

  3. Single crochet in all single crochets, starting the the first single crochet. Chain one and turn.

  4. Repeat until you run out of mesh (like I did in the video below) or until you’re scrubby is about 4″ wide. It isn’t a perfect science here.

  5. Fasten off the loose yarn and mesh and trim the messy bits if too long.
